Napleton drives in 4 in Rockers win

Napleton drives in 4 in Rockers win

June 3, 2026 by Steve Shutt

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Luke Napleton drive in four runs including a three-run homer to lead the High Point Rockers to a 6-2 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Wednesday night at Truist Point. The win snapped Southern Maryland’s seven-game winning streak and ended the Rockers’ five-game drought.

The Rockers improve to 16-22 while Southern Maryland continues to lead the South Division at 26-11.

Napleton drove in four of the six Rocker runs, three coming from a big three-run homer that gave the Rockers a 3-1 lead in the first inning.

Matt Solter turned in a much-needed quality start, tossing five innings while only surrendering two runs on five hits, and punching out a pair. The big righty earned his first win in nearly a month.

“Matty made a solid start and we needed that,” said Rockers manager Jamie Keefe. “Then Brayden Matthew gave us three really strong innings in relief and  Ryan Chasse slammed the door in the ninth.”

Chase Nixon, signed earlier in the day, made his professional debut and collected his first pro hit and came around to touch home for the first time as a Rocker. Nixon is the son of 2004 world series champion Trot Nixon.

The potent Southern Maryland offense wasted no time getting on the board, as Ezequiel Pagan lined an RBI single in the opening frame to give the Blue Crabs an early 1–0 advantage.

High Point answered immediately in the home half of the inning. With runners stationed on the corners, Napleton stepped to the plate and launched his fourth home run of the season, a three-run blast that quickly swung the lead back in favor of the Rockers.

Southern Maryland chipped away in the second when longtime Major Leaguer Alejandro De Aza ripped a double and later came around to score.

Napleton plated his fourth run of the night in the sixth, driving in Ryan McCarthy from third with a sacrifice fly.

Patrick Sanchez gave the Rockers some late insurance in the seventh, lining a double into left field that plated Nixon. After a couple knocks and a free pass loaded the bases, Braxton Davidson got credited for an RBI base on balls to push the High Point lead to 6-2.

Matthews continued to impress out of the pen, chucking three innings of one hit, scoreless baseball. The young righty has only surrendered one run in his first professional season. The Rockers pitching staff held Southern Maryland to just six hits on the night.

McCarthy and D.J Burt each collected a pair of hits in the win.

Game three of this six game set is slated to start at 6:35, Thursday night at Truist Point.  High Point will send righty David Hess (1-3, 4.89) to the mound to face Blue Crab lefty Justin Sanchez (0-1, 7.62). Rockers 2-hit by Crabs

Rockers 2-hit by Crabs

June 2, 2026 by Steve Shutt

HIGHPOINT, N.C. – Four Southern Maryland pitchers combined to hold High Point to just two hits as the Blue Crabs beat the Rockers 7-2 on Tuesday night at Truist Point in the first game of a six-game series.

The Rockers have now lost five straight to fall to 15-22. Southern Maryland continues to lead the South Division at 26-11 and has won seven straight contests.

Neither team managed a base hit until High Point’s Ryan McCarthy singled in the fourth inning. Southern Maryland was without a hit until Phillip Sikes doubled with two outs in the fifth. He was followed by Blue Crab catcher Ryan McCarthy who lined a homer give the Crabs a 2-0 lead.

High Point starter Ben Wereski, pitching on a strict pitch count as he recovers from an April injury, was outstanding, throwing three hitless innings and striking out six of the 10 batters he faced.

Matt Colucci (L, 2-2) gave up the two SMD runs in the fifth and then single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

“As good as our pitching was, you’re not going to win games unless you put the ball in play and we’re just not hitting right now,” said Rockers manager Jamie Keefe.

High Point rallied for two runs in the seventh as Luke Napleton walked, McCarthy singled and Braxton Davidson drew a walk to load the bases. Aidan Brewer drew an RBI walk and D.J. Burt bounced into a 6-4 fielder’s choice that plated High Point’s second run.

Southern Maryland starter Conner Overton (W, 5-3) went six innings and allowed two hits and both runs while walking one and striking out nine.

Game two of the six-game series is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start on Wednesday at Truist Point. The Rockers will send RHP Matt Solter (1-5, 9.17) to the mound to face Southern Maryland Ian Kahaloa (4-0, 4.29).  Rocker fans can follow the action live on DugoutTV.org or the audio broadcast on the free MixLR app.

Rockers drop series finale at Lexington

Rockers drop series finale at Lexington

May 31, 2026 by Steve Shutt

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The High Point Rockers and the Lexington Legends matched up in a classic pitcher’s duel with neither team able to score through the first four innings. But after the Rockers grabbed a 2-1 lead in the seventh, it all unraveled behind a four-run Legends outburst leading to Lexington’s 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Legends Field.

The loss drops the Rockers to 15-21 on the season while Lexington completed the three-game sweep to improve to 17-19.

High Point starter Yuhi Sako (L, 2-3) retired 10 straight hitters from the first through fourth innings before Xane Washington doubled to right to lead-off the fifth inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved Washington to third, shortstop Andy Atwood lined a double to right-center to give the Legends a 1-0 lead.

High Point immediately answered back as Ethan Skender blasted his third home run of the season to lead-off the sixth and tie the game at 1-1.

The Rockers grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh when Lexington starter Jimmy Loper (W, 3-2) walked Aidan Brewer to start the frame. Bryson Parks singled through the left side and Patrick Sanchez laid down a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third. Brewer scored on a wild pitch from Loper before the righty retired the final two batters of the inning to escape any further damage.

Sako left with no outs in the seventh after allowing an infield single to Mikey Kane and a walk to Xane Washington. James Hoyt relieved Sako and the first batter he faced, Gabe Howell, put down a sac bunt was fielded by Patrick Sanchez but his throw to third was dropped for an error. With one out and the bases loaded, the Legends tied the game on a balk by Hoyt. Atwood then hit a two-run double to put the Legends up 4-2. Another RBI double from Tres Gonzalez gave Lexington a 5-2 advantage.

The Rockers went down in order in both the eighth inning against Anthony Quattrocchi and in the ninth facing Carson Lambert who earned the save.

The Rockers finished the game with five hits on the day to Lexington’s seven.

After an off-day on Monday, High Point opens a six-game home series with South Division leader Southern Maryland on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at Truist Point. Rocker fans can follow the action live on HomeTeamLive.com (DugoutTV) or the audio broadcast on the free app MixLR.

Rockers pluck Ducks

Rockers pluck Ducks

May 24, 2026 by Steve Shutt

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point Rockers got back on the winning track on Sunday afternoon, slamming three home runs and pounding out 10 hits in a 9-5 win over the Long Island Ducks at Truist Point.

The win moves the Rockers to 13-17 on the season while the Ducks stand at 16-14.

Rightfielder Ryan McCarthy staked the Rockers to an early lead, blasting his second home run in as many days since joining the team on Saturday. On Sunday, McCarthy hit a three-run shot in the first off Ducks’ starter Harrison Francis, plating Braxton Davidson and Nick Longhi who had each drawn a walk, and giving the Rockers a 3-1 lead.

Long Island, which tallied a run in the first, scored twice in the second to tie the game as Wilmer Difo contributed an RBI double and Alsander Womack added a run-scoring single.

Chris Roller’s solo homer with two outs in the third off Rockers starter Fin Del Bonta-Smith  (W, 1-3) gave the Ducks a 4-3 advantage.

High Point took a 5-4 lead in the third when Davidson and Longhi hit back-to-back homers to put the Rockers in front 5-4. Long Island re-tied the game in the top of the fourth on Anthony Garcia’s lead-off solo homer.

The Rockers surged ahead for good in the fifth inning when Davidson singled, moved to third on a Longhi single and scored on McCarthy’s fielder’s choice to lead 6-5.

High Point added a trio of insurance runs in the seventh on RBI singles from Longhi, Troy Schreffler and D.J. Burt to take a 9-5 lead.

Del Bonta Smith hurled seven strong innings, scattering eight hits and striking out five without allowing a walk. Ryan Chasse worked a scoreless seventh and Xander Hamilton struck out two in closing out the Ducks in the ninth.

Womack led the Ducks with four hits including a double and an RBI. Davidson finished with a pair of hits and three runs scored on the afternoon. McCarthy drove in four runs to lead all Rockers.

The Rockers have a scheduled off-day on Monday before beginning a six-game road trip, starting at Charleston on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. before finishing the week with three games at Lexington. Rocker fans can follow the action on DugoutTV or the audio track on MixLR.

Rockers roast Ducks

Rockers roast Ducks

May 21, 2026 by Steve Shutt

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point Rockers offense exploded for season high 14 runs to power the Rockers over the Long Island Ducks 14-8 Wednesday night at Truist Point.

The victory snapped a six-game skid for the Rockers and evened the six-game series at one game apiece.

The win moves the Rockers to 12-14 for the year while the Ducks drop to 13-13.

High Point plated five runs in the third inning and followed it up with a six-run sixth frame, powering the Rockers past the Ducks in a much needed victory. Eight Rockers starters reached base safely including three RBI’s and a pair of hits for both Alex Dickerson and Max Viera.

What had been a fairly quiet Rockers offense wasted no time getting on the board Tuesday night, plating a pair of runs in the opening frame. Making his first start in the leadoff spot, Patrick Sanchez immediately set the tone with a base hit to open the game and later came around to score on an RBI single from Dickerson.

Moments later, Ethan Skender reached with a single of his own and eventually crossed the plate on Viera’s fielder’s choice to give High Point an early 2–0 advantage.

The Ducks answered almost immediately, erupting for a five-run third inning to storm in front 5-2. Long Island sent 10 hitters to the plate in the inning, with five different Ducks driving in runs, four of which were consecutive.

Sanchez followed up his lead-off single in the first with a line drive RBI double off the wall  in the second that drove in Anthony Servideo from second to pull High Point back within a pair at 5-3.

Yuhi Sako got the start for the Rockers and worked into trouble early, surrendering six runs across the opening four innings. The right-hander managed to settle in as the outing progressed, finishing with six strikeouts over four innings of work.

Ryan Chasse (W, 2-1) pitched the fifth and sixth innings to earn the win, holding the Ducks to two hits while fanning three.

Dickerson was granted a free pass to lead off the third inning that later proved to be the catalyst of an explosive frame. He was followed up by an RBI triple from Max Viera that scored Dickerson from first to pull back within one.

Ducks starter Michael Dominguez (L, 0-2) then lost the zone, issuing three walks after the Viera triple, allowing the tying run to come home. With the bases loaded and momentum fully swinging toward High Point, Long Island manager Lew Ford turned to Tanner Jacobson out of the bullpen in a difficult spot. Dominguez was tagged with the loss by product of his eight earned runs.

Troy Schreffler wasted no time making the move hurt, driving a bases clearing triple into right field to cap off a huge five run third inning for the Rockers.

Jacob Robson clubbed his eighth homer of the season in the fourth frame.

After Sanchez and Schreffler both reached on defensive miscues, Dickerson stepped into another prime RBI opportunity and delivered once again sixth, lining a two RBI single to stretch the Rockers lead to four. Moments later, Max Viera added on with a run scoring fielder’s choice to keep the inning rolling.

High Point was far from finished in the sixth. Braxton Davidson stepped to the plate and demolished a towering two run homer deep beyond the Truist Point sign in center field, his sixth homer of the year.

The offensive breakout continued moments later when Anthony Servideo launched his first home run of the season, pushing the Rockers lead to eight as the slugfest rolled on for the home side.

Game three of this six-game set is slated for 6:35 on Thursday at Truist Point. Rockers will send Matt Colucci (1-0)  to the hill opposed by Long Island’s Ryan Sandberg (2-3). Rocker fans can follow the action live on HomeTeamLive.com (DugoutTV) or the audio broadcast on the free app MixLR.
