YORK, Pa. – The High Point Rockers fell behind early to the York Revolution on Thursday night at WellSpan Park and dropped an 11-6 decision.
High Point starter Justin Dunn (L, 0-1) got off to a rough start, walking the lead-off man, Shed Long, Jr. in the bottom of the first then yielding three consecutive base hits. After a ground out produced a run, Devonte Brown smacked a two-run homer and the Revs held a 5-0 lead after one inning.
York added another run in the second when Austin Bates and Long each singled then Bates scored on a Rockers infield error to give the Revs a 6-0 advantage.
York’s offense added five more runs in the third for an 11-0 lead, highlighted by a three-run double from Nick Dunn.
Luke Napleton blasted a pair of home runs, a solo homer leading off the fourth and a two-run shot in the fifth as High Point pulled to within 11-3. The two homers mark the second consecutive night Napleton has hit two homers and put in a tie with Carlos De La Cruz of Charleston for the league home run lead.
High Point rallied and scored three runs in the eighth. Colin Davis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Ethan Skender drew a bases loaded walk and Braxton Davidson drove in a run with a ground out.
York’s Zach Mort went six innings and held the Rockers to five hits and a walk while striking out six. Napleton finished with two hits as did Ivan Melendez who had a pair of singles.
The Rockers are now 18-24 in the second half and 47-58 for the season while York moves to 30-12 and 65-40.
Friday’s game four of the series will feature RHP Matt Colucci (4-5, 5.49) facing York righty Rhett Kouba (8-4, 5.10)
