YORK, Pa. – The High Point Rockers scored early and often in posting a 10-2 win over the York Revolution on Saturday night at WellSpan Park. The Rockers tallied four runs in the first inning and were never headed. Ivan Melendez blasted a pair of home runs to highlight the Rockers’ 15-hit offensive attack.
The Rockers improve to 19-25 in the second half and 48-59 for the season. York is now 31-13 and 66-41.
The Rockers scored four times in the first inning. York starter Chris McElvain (L, 0-1) allowed a lead-off single to Ty Hubbard and a walk to Luke Napleton before Ivan Melendez hit his 17th homer of the year to give High Point a 3-0 lead. Ryan McCarthy followed with a double before coming around to score on an Ethan Skender single.
The Rockers strung together four consecutive hits in the fourth inning to score five runs and take a 9-0 lead. Napleton provided an RBI double, Melendez drove in a run with a single before McCarthy and Nick Longhi hit back-to-back home runs.
High Point starter Justin Jarvis held the Revs to just one hit over his four innings of work with two walks and one strikeout.
Daniel Blair (W, 2-2) came on in the fifth and held the Revs to just three hits over the next four innings, allowing two runs and striking out three to earn the win.
Melendez homered again with nobody on in the ninth to give High Point a 10-2 lead. Kenny Leiner pitched around a walk in the ninth to close out the win.
