HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point Rockers dropped a 5-3 decision to the Gastonia Ghost Peppers Saturday night in front of a crowd of 2,301 at Truist Point. The game was halted in the top of the ninth when heavy rains hit the ballpark. The game was called and ruled official shortly before 10 p.m.

The Rockers are now 25-37, 54-71 this season while Gastonia is 33-29, 71-54.

The Rockers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first when Ryan McCarthy led off the frame with a double and scored on a single by Colin Davis.

The Ghost Peppers tallied a run in the second to tie the game at 1-1. Cole Roederer drew a walk from High Point starter Justin Dunn (L, 0-3), moved to second on a single by Aaron McKeith and, following a passed ball, scored on a single by Anthony Garcia.

Gastonia added two runs in the third on a sac fly by Justin Wylie and Justin Lavigne scored on a wild pitch.

Gastonia’s lead grew to 4-1 in the fifth when Roederer reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a McKeithan single.

The Rockers cut the deficit to 4-3 with two runs in the sixth. Ivan Melendez singled and Braxton Davidson followed with a single. D.J. Burt’s grounder back to the mound resulted in an errant throw to home, allowing Melendez to scored. Aidan Brewer then forced hom a run with a fielder’s choice.

Justin Wylie put Gastonia back in front 5-3 with a solo homer in the seventh.

The game was halted with two outs in the top of the ninth and became a final some 30 minutes later when the game was called due to rain.

Gastonia reliever Tyler Burch (W, 2-2) earned the win with 1.2 innings of work, holding the Rockers to two hits, no runs and three strikeouts.

McCarthy and Davis each finished with two hits for the Rockers.

Sunday marks the final game of the 2026 season for the Rockers. They will send righty Yuhi Sako (7-11, 6.00) to the mound to face as yet to be determined Gastonia pitcher.
