HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point Rockers were held to just two hits in a 2-0 loss to the Lexington Legends in front of a crowd of 2,246 on Friday night at Truist Point. The win was the 11th straight for the Legends.
The Legends scored once in the first inning when lead-off hitter Xane Washington tripled off High Point starter Matt Colucci (L, 4-6) and scored on a groundout to second by P.J. Hilson.
That was all the scoring by either team until the seventh inning when the Legends added on a run on a double by Patrick Sanchez, a sac bunt from Washington and a single to left by Hilson.
Colucci was solid throughout the game, holding the Legends to just six hits and one run while walking one and striking out six.
Legends starter Jimmy Loper (W, 10-8) tossed seven innings and held the Rockers to two hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. High Point’s hits came from Colin Davis who led off the second with a single to center but was erased on a 6-4-3 double play. Quincy Nieporte led off the sixth with a single to center but was stranded at third.
John Armstrong retired the Rockers in order in the eighth to earn a hold and Carson Lambert threw a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth for his 11th save of the season.
The Rockers are now 19-30 in the second half of the season and 48-64 for the year. Lexington continues to lead the Atlantic League’s South Division at 32-17 and 58-54 for the full season.
Saturday’s fifth game of the six-game series will start at 6:35 p.m. at Truist Point. High Point will send RHP Justin Jarvis (2-4, 5.30) to the mound to face Lexington’s Tyler Guilfoil (7-6, 4.88).
