HIGH POINT, N.C. – Two more High Point Rocker players have had their contracts purchased, one by an MLB organization and the other by an international league.
Richt-handed reliever Zach Vennaro will be joining the Minnesota Twins organization while right-handed starter Fin Del Bonta-Smith has been acquired by the Saraperos de Saltillo in the Mexican League.
Vennaro , 29, is in his third season with the Rockers as a hard-throwing reliever. In 92 appearances in his Rockers career, he has struck out 119 batters in 87.2 innings pitched. Vennaro has a career record of 1-3 with four saves.
Vennaro is expected to join the Class AA Wichita Wind Surge of the Texas League.
Del Bonta-Smith, 29, is in his second year with the Rockers as a starter and has a 3-6 record with a 4.08 ERA. He has 62 strikeouts in 92.2 innings with just 19 walks. Del Bonta-Smith will join the Saraperos de Saltillo. A sarapero is a weaver of shawls, the major industry in Saltillo which is located 188 miles south of Laredo, Texas.
The Rockers have now had seven player contracts purchased by MLB teams or international leagues this season and 56 since the club was founded in 2019.
