High Point’s Zander Wiel will not be the only Rocker to take part in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. Former Rockers pitchers Akeel Morris and Alberto Baldonado will also be participating.
Morris, who will pitch for Great Britain, appeared in 22 games during the Rockers’ inaugural season in 2019. He posted a 1-0 record and a 4.23 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 27.2 innings pitched. Morris has pitched with Long Island and New Britain in the Atlantic League as well as stints in the Major Leagues with the Mets, Braves and Angels.
Baldonado, a lefthanded reliever, appeared in 13 games with High Point in 2019, recording one save and posting an impressive 1.98 ERA. His contract was purchased by the Washington Nationals that season and he made his MLB debut with the Nationals in 2021. Baldonado will be pitching for his native Panama in the WBC.
